FOLK DANCING

David and Nicole met while folk dancing in Brussel, Belgium and folk dancing remains an important part of their lives. They share this passion with other members of the Louisiana Czech Heritage Dancers of Libuse and Kolin, Louisiana.

Since 1986, David and Nicole have helped teach the dancing and arrange choreographies. The group has grown and changed with the maturing or ageing of its members. We have performed locally and regionally at folk festivals, nursing homes, Czech festivities, and other venues.

Our repertory includes dozens of authentic Czech dances taught by Frantisek Bonus, Vonnie Brown, and dancers from groups Dvorana (Prague) and Bartos (Zlin) in the Czech Republic. We dress in costumes either created locally or obtained directly from Bohemia and Moravia. Our children’s group, organized and directed by Cookie Tuma, helps assure the continuity of the dance tradition in yet another generation of Louisianans of Czech descent.
