Kate Chopin and the Ruins at Cloutierville

The remarkable American woman writer, Kate Chopin, is shown in front of the ruins of her former home in Cloutierville, Louisiana.  The house, depicted in the background, was a wonderful French-Creole raised home, typical of antebellum Louisiana architecture in Central Louisiana.  A recent fire destroyed the structure completely.  One of my paintings, a portrait of Kate Chopin in front of her home, was a gift to the museum and was destroyed in the fire.  It's a tragic loss for this area, so materially poor, yet so rich in literary heritage
