Governor Kathleen Blanco
Portrait of Kathleen Blanco, our first woman governor of Louisiana.
She is wearing her trademark pearl necklace, exaggerated to look
like mardi gras beads, as is surrounded by a Cajun cottage, the
capitol building, and an American lotus. The flowers on her dress
are black-eyed Susan's which dot the capitol gardens during the
summer months. Governor Blanco was officially sworn in to her
office in both French and English. Vive le francais en Louisiane!
